"Only our enemies leave roses. Violent lives ending violently."

I've never had an enemy leave me roses, but then, I've never had any enemies. Title is from 'Watchmen'.

The Day So Far

Did some laundry and am working on my newest roleplay board.

News/Stuff About Celebrities and Movies/Music/TV Shows/etc.
Movie News:
There's going to be a 'Bad Boys 3'. Again, more money that could be going to putting out movies I WANT to see in theatres on time.

WTF of the Week:
So, Disney bought Marvel Entertainment Inc., giving them ownership of over 5,000 characters, for $4 billion. That amount of money is insane to even comprehend, and doesn't Disney own half the world anyway? Why do they need any more?

Universal Studios is going to LOVE this.

'Watchmen', directed by Zack Snyder, based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. My favourite comic book movie ever, maybe one of my favourite movies ever. If you've seen my review on the movie from March on here, you know I don't need to rehash anything I've said. Rorschach is the best character ever. I just had to reiterate that. :)

Funny Picture(s) I've Found:
Oh, I feel this all the time. I don't like Harry Potter, but this is hilarious.

The Song Currently Stuck In My Head:
'Flathead' by The Fratellis. I seem to be one of the few people who still likes this band. I don't care that much, since I rock this song on Rock Band.

Jackie Earle Haley:
Why, it's Braxton Red! That scamp from the Bronx! I think he was in my dream last night.

Quote of the Day

-Sideshow Bob: "Oh, great. Whenever a woman passes by, I suppose it will be my job to lead the hooting. 'Oh yeah. Shake it, madam. Capital knockers.'"

Oh yeah, and BBQ since Jackie Earle Haley kept posting about it on his Twitter. Damn you, sir!

"A new study has found that that the rudest city in Europe is Paris, France. The study was conducted by the Institute of DUH!"

Well DUH! Title is from Conan O'Brien.

The Day So Far

I worked today, 2-6 and then went clothes shopping before my friend Liz came over to watch 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' with me.

News/Stuff About Celebrities and Movies/Music/TV Shows/etc.
Movie News:
-There's already talk of a 3rd 'Halloween' remake. I just...WHY?! The first one was AWFUL! The 3rd one might be in 3-D. Is it so you can see the suck coming right at you?
-Neil Gaiman, awesome writer and such things, has said that "vampire movies should go back to the grave from whence they came". And normally I would disagree since I like vampires, but I am so sick to death of seeing a new teen book about them, and don't even talk to me about 'Twilight' or 'True Blood'. I want to take a nice break from vampires for awhile and focus maybe on werewolves.

'Little Children', directed by Todd Field, based on the book by Tom Perrotta. One of the many movies I've seen this year thanks to my new obsession enjoyment of Jackie Earle Haley as an actor. He, Patrick Wilson and Kate Winslet are amazing in this movie, especially Jackie. He's the only actor I know of, at least that I've personally seen, that can play a child molester/pedophile that can evoke even a modicrum of sympathy, since normally I have nothing but revulsion for those types of people.

This is by far better than the book, which normally doesn't happen, and I've personally seen it about 10 times this year since April.

Funny Picture(s) I've Found:
Again, Kate Beaton is amazing. If you don't understand this, read about Mary Shelley and that summer she and Percy spent at the lake in Geneva with Lord Byron. Incidentally, it was during the Little Ice Age, which is why they were stuck indoors, which is why Mary wrote Frankenstein and why her husband came up with a story about a vampire...a full 79 years before Bram Stoker wrote Dracula.

The Song Currently Stuck In My Head:
'Bulletproof' by Kerli. I originally heard this on a Dan/Rorschach fanmix, but I have really started loving it on its own merits. It made me buy the whole CD. She sounds a lot like Björk on a few of her songs, and that's appealing on its own merits.

Jackie Earle Haley:

I just...I don't even know what I say to this, aside from laughing myself sick. His face KILLS me. I'd like to print this picture out and whenever I actually meet him, I can be like, "WHAT were you doing and WHY don't you do it more often?!"

"I've learned that life is one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders was dead."

I often have that feeling, Homer. Title is from 'The Simpsons'.

The Day So Far

I started reading Joe College by Tom Perrotta during my breakfast, after not getting to sleep until 3:30 AM after trying to sleep for an hour. Ugh. It's what I get for staying up so late all the time.

News/Stuff About Celebrities and Movies/Music/TV Shows/etc.
Movie News:
So, it seems there's a new remake in the works every few weeks. Some of them I look at with kind of an "Eh, I guess that could work" sense of apathy growing deep within me. But, there are a few that fill me with a rage so profound that I'm in danger of exploding like the wind guy in 'Big Trouble in Little China'

"Near Dark
Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes company is behind the remake of Kathryn Bigelow’s 1987 vampire flick. Attached to direct is Samuel Bayer, whose CV is filled primarily with musical videos to date. The film seems a little lost in development hell right now, however, and the release date is at best a few years away."

WHY?!!! WHY would you remake one of the best vampire movies EVER?!! AUGGGGGH!!! The director of the remake of 'Nightmare on Elm Street', starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, is directing this. Cue my leeriness.

"
Oldboy
Steven Spielberg is bringing a new take to Oldboy than the 2003 Korean corker, with Will Smith attached to the project too. Smith has said that the film will be based on the original manga, rather than the film itself. Not strictly a remake, then, but you can bet that the overlap will be noticeable"

This doesn't fill me with rage more than it disgusts and terrifies me. The fact that Will Smith is going to be playing the main character is just....*shudders*. I haven't read the manga, but if the manga has even some of the plot of the movie...oh God.

'Breaking Away', directed by Peter Yates, starring Dennis Quaid, Daniel Stern and Jackie Earle Haley. One of the best "coming of age"/"underdog" movies I've ever seen. I fell in love with all of these characters from the beginning, but especially Jackie's character Moocher {who I suspect is really named Mitchell. I mean, look at him. He looks like a Mitchell.}. He's such a cutie and it's one of my favourite characters Jackie has ever played, aside from Rorschach of course.

It has some of the best lines, too:
-Dave's father: "If you eat so much, Moocher, how come you're so damned small?"
-Moocher: "Oh... It's my metabolism. I eat 3 times a day and my metabolism eats 5 times a day."
If that's not a perfect way to describe Jackie, I don't know what is.

Funny Picture(s) I've Found:

If you don't get this, you need to watch 'Big Trouble in Little China' right now. RIGHT. NOW.

The Song Currently Stuck In My Head:
'Goodbye to You' by Michelle Branch. I blame this largely on the fact that Allison posted this video from 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' on her Livejournal, which I had forgotten about and when I watched it it made me really upset.

Jackie Earle Haley:

I do NOT know what it is about how he looks as Sugar Boy, but JFC, I should not want him as much as I do when he's in this role. Gawwwd.

"Don't come down here while I'm eating my full English breakfast with extra breakfast and expect me to make things easier for you, okay?"

I want a full English breakfast with extra breakfast! Title is from 'Run Fatboy Run'.

The Day So Far

I just watched 'Run Fatboy Run' and it's making me really want to go to the gym. I can't wait until Mom gets home so I can do this.

News/Stuff About Celebrities and Movies/Music/TV Shows/etc.
Movie News- Mockery of the Week:

Now, I mean no disrespect to Johnny Depp, but dear god. Could he look more like a pedophile? I thought he had topped that with 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', but his role as the Mad Hatter soars far above that. It like, FLYS and swoops over the mountains under glorious rainbows with sparkles and flowers and unicorns flying around the Mad Hatter as he does this.

And that may be one of the weirdest images I've ever put in my head.

Most Recent Movie(s) I've Seen At Home:

'Run Fatboy Run', directed by David Schwimmer and written by Michael Ian Black and Simon Pegg. A lot of movies I've watched recently have been ones I didn't see at the time, but this is one I was really looking forward to, and I'm glad I wasn't disappointed. Simon Pegg is one of the funniest actors out there today. His comedic timing was spot on and he plays a loveable schlub really well. Even though you could go into the movie hating him, since he leaves his pregnant fiance at the altar, you can't help but like him, even though he was an idiot for doing so.

Funny Picture(s) I've Found:
Someone should have shown this to Stephenie Meyer. Though I don't think even this could have made Twilight any better, since the woman can't fucking write.

The Song Currently Stuck In My Head:
'Right Round' by Flo Rida featuring Keasha. I never thought I'd love a rap song so much, and I blame 'The Hangover' for this since it was at the end of the movie and throughout. It's really really catchy and is currently my most played song on my iTunes.

Jackie Earle Haley:
This man can wear a suit like it's his JOB. And I think it should be a part time job for him since he does it so well. I have half a mind to talk to his agent about this possibility.

Captain Hammer really like curtains. Title is from 'Dr. Horrible.'

The Day So Far

I finished the book The Abstinence Teacher. Is it bad that I was already casting the movie in my head?

I did my Math homework and am just waiting to shower and then go to class.

News/Stuff About Celebrities and Movies/Music/TV Shows/etc.
Actor News:
Paul Giamatti, one of my favourite actors ever, is playing Larry Fine in the 'Three Stooges' movie. I'm pretty excited about this, actually. Normally, the very thought of a movie about them would make me cringe, since I grew up watching them with my Dad, but so far they're making good choices with the casting. Benicio Del Toro is playing Moe Howard. It took me awhile to get onboard with that, but I can see it.

The Song Currently Stuck In My Head:
'Slipping' by Neil Patrick Harris from Dr. Horrible's Sing A Long Blog. Really, if you haven't seen this by now, you REALLY need to get on it. It's on Hulu still. Only 45 minutes. Well worth your time. Side effects may include the desire to burst into song, sing along with the actors and possibly stab Joss Whedon for being a bastard who enjoys ripping your heart out.

The Day So Far

I watched 'The Breakfast Club' yet again and spent most of the afternoon reading since I didn't have my computer.

Ben and I worked together and had a big bunch of crazy in the evening -_-

I was going to buy some books, but figured I could save my money, and so came home and watched 'The Last King of Scotland'.

News/Stuff About Celebrities and Movies/Music/TV Shows/etc.
Movie You Should Be Excited About:
'Taking Woodstock'

This is going to be an fabulous ensemble movie; Jeffrey Dean Morgan {JDM}, Paul Dano, Liev Schreiber...among many others. And, if you're a fan of Woodstock, you'll probably know about this anyway.

Movie News:
Apparently, the 'Aliens' franchise is going to be entirely remade. They're redoing all of the movies.

And you know, it's shit like this that pisses me off more than anything. Especially when NEW movies like, oh, I don't know, 'Shutter Island', are pushed back because of "lack of money". If studios have enough money to continually remake GOOD movies and turn them into shitty ones, they should have enough money to promote 'Shutter Island' at least three times over.

And don't even get me started on how mad I am about the 'Fright Night' remake. GOD!

Most Recent Movie(s) I've Seen At Home:
'The Last King of Scotland', directed by Kevin Macdonald, based on the book of the same name by Giles Foden, about the deeds of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. When I first heard of this movie, the title confused me, since, let's face it, Forest Whitaker is a black man, and I doubted he'd be a King of Scotland any time soon. The title refers to what Amin called himself; "His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular" and he referred to himself as the "Last King of Scotland" in an interview, which you see in the film, because of his love of Scottish culture.

The film is very brutal. It's told through the eyes of a fictional person, played by James McAvoy, but the deeds they say Amin have done {killing 300,000 of his own people, for example} are real. The last half hour of the film or so are especially brutal in particular. Forest Whitaker is terrifying as Amin and brings a scary authenticity to the role.
